Author In Hand ProgramThis program provides free books to students in the elementary and middle schools (K-8) from Montauk to Sagaponack. Since 2004 we have given away books valued at over $37,000. For eighteen years the John M. Marshall Elementary School and East Hampton Middle School have participated in the “Author In Hand Program.” In 2009, we extended the program to include Springs, Montauk, Sagaponack and Wainscott schools. The goals of this program have been to encourage reading, the writing process, and to provide every student with books for summer reading.
The Author in Hand program accepts donations to offset the cost of books that will be distributed to students at each school’s book fair during late spring. All businesses and groups that donate to this program will be listed on bookplates that will be sealed inside each book. |
Challenge DayChallenge Day, a training program to intensify a positive sense of community in and outside the school was offered to East Hampton Midddle School and HIgh School students. It is a nationally recognized program out of California whose goal is “the bring students closer together and to decrease any existing tensions in the school and community.”
Challenge Day's purpose is to help students to develop acceptance and appreciation for one another – to help create a positive school and community climate. Through experiential workshops and programs the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth and full expression is demonstrated and learned.
